1. Agreement
These Terms govern your use of the Loci mobile app and the lociar.com website (together, "Loci", "the service", operated by "we"/"us"). By using Loci you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
2. The service
Loci lets you attach content — notes, photos, quiz games — to real-world locations using augmented reality, and discover content others have placed by physically being there. Loci is in active development ("beta"): features may change, break, or be removed, and content may occasionally be lost. Don't use Loci as the only copy of anything important.
3. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Loci.
- The app creates a guest account on first launch; you can upgrade it with an email or Google sign-in. A guest account lives only on your phone — if you lose the phone without upgrading, the account can't be recovered.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your credentials to yourself.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you create in Loci. So that the service can work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (e.g. thumbnails), and display your content within the service, to the audience you chose for it, and to use it to operate, develop, and improve the service — including training our own machine-learning systems under the limits set out in the Privacy Policy's machine-learning section. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared with others (e.g. a question you contributed to a game), short-lived backups, and the machine-learning wind-down described there (your data leaves training datasets right away and models at the next retraining cycle).
You promise that you have the rights to what you post, and that it doesn't violate anyone's privacy, intellectual property, or the law.
5. Rules of conduct
Don't use Loci to:
- post illegal content, sexual content involving minors, credible threats, or harassment;
- stalk, track, or reveal someone's location or identity without their consent;
- impersonate others, spam, or scrape the service;
- interfere with the service's operation or other users' access, or probe its security beyond good-faith vulnerability reporting.
Content is scanned automatically at upload and can be reported by any user. We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, at our discretion, with or without notice.
6. Stay safe in the real world
- Stay aware of your surroundings — don't walk while staring at the screen.
- Never use Loci while driving or operating anything that needs your attention.
- Don't trespass. Content placement does not mean the place is safe or legal to enter.
- Respect other people, private property, and local rules; be careful near roads, water, and drop-offs.
You use Loci at your own risk and you're solely responsible for your movements and conduct while playing. GPS and AR positioning are approximate — markers can appear some distance from their true spot; never follow a marker into an unsafe place.
7. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Loci infringes your copyright, email lociar.com [at] gmail.com with: (a) the content's location in the app or a link, (b) the work it infringes, (c) your contact details, and (d) a statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorized and that your notice is accurate. We remove infringing content and terminate repeat infringers.
8. Third-party services
Loci relies on third-party services (Google ARCore and sign-in, Supabase, OpenStreetMap and others — see the Privacy Policy). Their availability isn't under our control, and their own terms apply to their processing.
9. Disclaimers
Loci is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of location data, or uninterrupted availability. Content posted by users is theirs, not ours — we don't endorse it and aren't responsible for it.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Loci — including injury or damage arising from your physical activity while using the app (see section 6). Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the past 12 months (currently: nothing).
11. Termination
You can stop using Loci and delete your account at any time (Profile → Delete account, or see account deletion). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm the service or its users.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms; the effective date above will change and material changes will be announced in the app. Using Loci after a change means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of the operator's place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless the mandatory consumer-protection law of your own country applies.
