1. Who we are
Loci Go ("we", "us") is the mobile app Loci Go (Android package com.lociar.go), the
family edition of Loci, with its companion website at lociar.com. For anything in this policy,
contact lociar.com [at] gmail.com.
2. What Loci Go does not do
- No precise location off the phone. Exact GPS is used on the device to guide the hunt and check that an answer is given near its marker; it is never transmitted.
- No user accounts or sign-in: no email address, no password, no Google account.
- No chat, messaging, or photo posting. There is nothing to send and nothing to upload. A quiz question may show a picture its adult creator attached (section 4); your child only ever views it.
- No advertising and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No push notifications: the app contains no push messaging component at all.
- No camera uploads. The camera powers the augmented-reality view on the device only. Loci Go does not use cloud AR anchors, so no camera-derived data is sent to Google.
3. Information we collect
| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Anonymous ID | A random account identifier is created when the app first opens. It has no name, email, or profile attached; it exists so scores keep working across sessions. It is used only to run the game. |
| Approximate location | To list nearby park hunts, the app sends a location rounded to roughly a one-kilometre grid. Exact positioning stays on the phone (section 2). |
| Game play | Which games were joined, answers chosen, points scored, and when a hunt was finished. |
| Nickname (optional) | When joining a private game (for example one a teacher made for a class), a nickname may be typed. It is visible only to the players and creator of that game. On public park leaderboards, players always appear under a generated pseudonym such as "Player #a1b2", never a name. The app shows each pseudonym as a friendly made-up name (for example "Golden Panda"), worked out on the phone. |
| Diagnostics | An optional on-device log (off by default, toggled in Settings) used for troubleshooting. It stays on the device unless you send it to us yourself. |
4. Game content and moderation
The hunts playable in Loci Go are created by adults: either curated public-park quizzes or private games made in Loci or the web studio by someone who shares a join code (a teacher, a den leader, a parent). A question may include a picture its creator attached (for example a photo of a place to name). Private games are only available in Loci Go after their questions, answers, names, and pictures have been automatically scanned by a moderation service (currently OpenAI's moderation API) and found appropriate; games that fail the check never appear in Loci Go, and a picture is shown in Loci Go only once it has passed that check. Nothing your child enters in Loci Go is sent to the moderation vendor.
5. Service providers
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and hosting: the anonymous ID, scores, and game data live here. |
| Map providers: OpenStreetMap, Stadia Maps, MapTiler | The in-app play-area map loads its tile images straight from one map provider's servers: OpenStreetMap by default, Stadia Maps or MapTiler when OpenStreetMap can't serve us. Those requests expose the device's IP address and the map area viewed to the provider in use, under its own privacy policy (OpenStreetMap, Stadia Maps, MapTiler). The credit line on the map names the provider. No account, name or advertising ID goes with them. |
| Google Play services for AR (ARCore) provides on-device motion tracking for the AR view. Loci Go does not use its cloud features. |
We share data with these providers only to run the service. We do not sell personal data, and we do not show advertising in Loci Go.
6. Children
Loci Go is designed for families, including children under 13, playing together. We collect no more from any player than the items in section 3, we do not require any personal information to play, and none of it is used for advertising or profiling. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to review or delete the data associated with their child's device (section 8); deleting the anonymous account removes its scores and any nicknames. We encourage adults to use the supervision reminder shown at first launch: Loci Go sends players to real outdoor places, and an adult should always be present.
7. Who sees what
Scores appear on the leaderboard of each game played. On public park hunts, every player is shown as a pseudonym ("Player #a1b2", shown in the app as a made-up name such as "Golden Panda"). In a private game, the nickname typed at join (if any) is visible to that game's players and creator only.
8. Retention and deletion
- The anonymous ID and its scores are kept so returning players keep their standings; public park hunts end weekly and their leaderboards become history.
- To delete everything tied to a device's anonymous account, email us (section 10); see account deletion. Because the account is anonymous, include the request from the device if possible, or describe the games and nicknames involved so we can locate it.
9. Security · Changes
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and access to data is enforced server-side with row-level security. We'll update this policy as the service evolves and change the effective date above; material changes will be announced in the app.
